Our big kid is at a friends house for the night (no school tomorrow), so it seemed a little quiet around here tonight! Not that I am complaining!! lol!! Sage seems to enjoy a little undivided attention too.
After a rough week last week, Sage's temperament seems a little more 'normal' this week. Normal, meaning only part of the day is spent whining and crying vs. the majority of the day. Last Tuesday, we had one of those 'yes, that is my child having the all out, kicking, screaming, fits' at the pool when it was time to leave. Of course, everything echoes and carries quite nicely in there too. Her 'pool privileges' were revoked the next night and that has seemed to have made some impact. Before we even got home from the pool, she had processed the consequences enough to ask 'who is going to stay home with me?'.
I am so thankful that her joy and smile are absolutely contagious when she is in a good mood, because it at least makes these moments bearable.
Regan had a birthday party last weekend for her friend Eden. The girls have known each other for over 4 years now. It's hard to believe they are both 5!! The party started with sledding at one of the local hills. We had a pretty good time, despite some cold temps and wind chills. I was reminded how much my daughter dislikes the sight of blood when one of the other party-go-ers was 'taken out' while coming back up the hill. She landed on her face and split her lip open. Regan proceeded to hide behind me and wasn't sure if she was going to continue sledding. After I explained to her why the accident happened (the little girl was walking up the sledding path, instead of the walking path), she went back to sledding (and walking up the right path) and had a fun time.
We have been fortunate, so far, to avoid any major illnesses around here. There seems to be a lot of strep throat going around and all the other fun winter 'stuff'. Hopefully we can remain healthy!!
Hope your week is blessed!
What's up?
So, what's up with us? I guess I haven't felt there is too much excitement to blog about! We have been thoroughly enjoying our membership at the aquatic center. The girls love the 'activity center' (child care), which gives Paul and I a nice time to be able to go and workout a couple nights a week. The pool has been a riot with them too. Regan is big enough, and now brave enough, to go on the water slide. She spends most of her time in the pool with no swimmies or flotation devices. She is learning to swim pretty well. She still grabs a kick board for the lazy river, which is the only area over her head.
Sage has conquered any fear of water that remained a couple of weeks ago! She loves hopping across the lily pads, but even more so, loves to jump in and swim back 'all by herself' (with a float suit on). Tonight, she really took to the lazy river too. Now that she knows she can trust the float suit, she has a lot of confidence and doesn't want any help. She was a riot to watch. This 'lazy' river is different than the others I have seen. You don't float on a tube, you just float, swim, walk, whatever in a circle area that has jets moving the water around. Every time she got near a jet and it would shoot her forward she would just squeal with delight. Paul had to finally drag her out of that area, kicking and screaming, because she was gagging from all the water she ingested. She has a hard time keeping her mouth closed and the water out...mostly because her grin is too big and she keeps trying to talk!!
I am still enjoying my vita-mix. Homemade pizza is a hit and Paul's new favorite? Guacamole! I have also made a couple of batches of soup. The first one, a creamy potato, needs some spice revision. The second one, broccoli cheese was great! Even Paul said I could make it anytime and for a man who loathes vegetables, that's pretty good!

Happy New Year!
Today, we come to the end of our 'Christmas Break' and return to 'normal life' tomorrow...what ever that means! lol!!
We have enjoyed the holidays and have spent lots of time together as a family. Our highlight is definitely joining our local aquatic center. Our local high school built a beautiful facility that opened in the fall and we purchased a membership to it as our 'big' Christmas gift to the girls and as a way to spend family time together. Once a week, we will go together as a family. Paul and I will sneak in a little exercise, while the girls go to the activity center. Then we will go to the family pool together for a little while. Once a month we will visit on Saturday or Sunday, just to go to the pool together.
Last weekend, we attempted to go to a local mall and look at a new bed for Paul and I. After a 40 minute drive in the fog, Sage decided to be sick in the car. So our trip to the mall turned into a trip to Walmart for new/clean clothes for her and a trip home in the fog. Yesterday, we decided to attempt the trip again. Regan's health was questionable, as she woke up extremely tired and had a low grade fever. We decided to go anyway. We made it to Build a Bear, had lunch, visited the bed store (and purchased a new bed), rode the carousel and then waited for Daddy while he went to Dick's Sporting goods. While we were waiting, I kept asking Regan repeatedly if she was going to be sick. She kept saying no. A quick stop at Mrs. Fields for a treat to eat on the ride home proved to be too much. As soon as she stood up from sitting in Sage's stroller, she said 'I am going to throw up!' ACK!!! Somehow, Paul managed to discretely handle the situation, containing the entire mess in one of our shopping bags. The funny part is that we were surrounded by people, but nobody even noticed a thing! Too consumed with picking their cookies I guess!!
Oh, the joys of parenting!! The good news is, she is feeling much better today. So tomorrow it's back to school (which she is very excited about)!

Merry Christmas!

I hope your Christmas has been blessed! We have enjoyed a wonderful day together today. We started with some fresh homemade cinnamon rolls and a hot cup of coffee at about 7:30 am. The girls were actually up around 7 am, but it took us about 30 minutes to convince (read cajole, poke, prod, remove blankets from, tickle....) daddy to get out of bed.
The girls opened their fishing poles first (because I decided to not even wrap them! lol!). They have had a ball all day 'fishing' from the loft!!
They also love their new fuzzy mock crocs and have been wearing them all day. A water coloring book, toothpaste and toothbrush filled their stockings, all if which they love.
We also spent some time outside using the new snow tubes and Regan and Daddy attempted to do some ice fishing on the pond.
The girls couldn't wait for daddy to open his yankee candles and light up frisbee and mommy is grateful for her photography classes that daddy registered her for! ;)
It has been a fun day and a Merry Christmas!
Dreaming of a white Christmas??
If you are the one 'Dreaming of a White Christmas'....STOP.....PLEASE???? lol!
A week ago, 40 degree weather nearly melted all the snow on the ground, but since then we have accumulated about 30" of new snow and it isn't stopping!. It is pretty, but........

Not a creature is stirring...
well, except me that is! LOL! Paul is in bed sleeping, which is how he spent the majority of the day. He has come down with a pretty bad cold that is wiping him out. The girls are in bed and both fell asleep quickly after staying up late to watch 'I want a dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown'.
Tonight, I took them to dinner at G&L and to see the Christmas Lights/show at Harbor Island. This is the third year of 'the lights', as my girls call them. It started out as this, at a house in a subdivision. The amount of attention it got didn't please the neighbors too much, so they moved it to some city property last year. They do a great job with it and my girls love to go see it. Regan was a little disappointed that she didn't go in her PJ's this year (like last year), but I didn't think they were appropriate for going out to eat! (I tell ya, that kid doesn't forget a thing!) :)
We spent quite a bit of time outside this morning, enjoying some sunshine to go with our foot of snow we accumulated on Friday. We couldn't seem to locate the sled, so the girls had fun on their playground and found the slide just as entertaining. Regan then found another place to slide...down the steps on the deck. She also enjoyed standing below while I shoveled some snow from above. She giggled and grinned the whole time. Anything clothing or body part that wasn't smooth and slippery accumulated clumps of snow, including her eyelashes. It was quite a sight! Sage loves being outside too. She cried when it was time to come in.
I bought myself a new kitchen toy last week and I am thoroughly enjoying it. It is a Vita-mix, a commercial blender of sorts. We have had delicious fruit smoothies almost everyday (including things like kale, which is supposed to be really good for you). I think Regan has asked for ice cream almost every night since we got it. I haven't perfected a true ice cream yet, but I make a pretty mean fruit sorbet type thing from milk, frozen fruit, sugar and a little bit of ice.
Earlier this week I made a loaf of bread with it. It mixes and kneads the dough for you. Although, my loaf was a little crumbly and I may have to do a 'little' hand kneading next time. It wasn't too bad, considering it was 100% whole wheat. I am hoping to track down some wheat berries soon, as it will grind them into flour for you.
Last night I made homemade pizza. Sauce and dough from scratch. It was actually pretty good! I haven't tried my own pizza crust in a long time because they were always like cardboard, but this one was nice and fluffy. Regan now wants pizza for every meal!
Today, I made Taco soup. The recipe called for everything to be blended into a thick broth, but I like some 'stuff' in my soup, so I added ground venison with onions and corn after the blending. Topped off with broken tortilla chips, cheese and sour cream and I think we have another keeper. Blending most of the ingredients up is a great option for us, as any food with kidney type beans in it is a no-go with Paul.
It's fun to try some new food stuff again!

I am an odd duck!
According to the 'Jung Typology Test' I am an 'INTJ', in other words, I am classified by the following criteria: Introversion, Intuition, Thinking, Judging. The name they give this type of person is 'Mastermind' - which comprise less than one percent of the population . It was very interesting taking this test and reading the results. I found a lot of what it said to be true of my personality.
