A Quiet night...

Our big kid is at a friends house for the night (no school tomorrow), so it seemed a little quiet around here tonight! Not that I am complaining!! lol!! Sage seems to enjoy a little undivided attention too.

After a rough week last week, Sage's temperament seems a little more 'normal' this week. Normal, meaning only part of the day is spent whining and crying vs. the majority of the day. Last Tuesday, we had one of those 'yes, that is my child having the all out, kicking, screaming, fits' at the pool when it was time to leave. Of course, everything echoes and carries quite nicely in there too. Her 'pool privileges' were revoked the next night and that has seemed to have made some impact. Before we even got home from the pool, she had processed the consequences enough to ask 'who is going to stay home with me?'.

I am so thankful that her joy and smile are absolutely contagious when she is in a good mood, because it at least makes these moments bearable.

Regan had a birthday party last weekend for her friend Eden. The girls have known each other for over 4 years now. It's hard to believe they are both 5!! The party started with sledding at one of the local hills. We had a pretty good time, despite some cold temps and wind chills. I was reminded how much my daughter dislikes the sight of blood when one of the other party-go-ers was 'taken out' while coming back up the hill. She landed on her face and split her lip open. Regan proceeded to hide behind me and wasn't sure if she was going to continue sledding. After I explained to her why the accident happened (the little girl was walking up the sledding path, instead of the walking path), she went back to sledding (and walking up the right path) and had a fun time.

We have been fortunate, so far, to avoid any major illnesses around here. There seems to be a lot of strep throat going around and all the other fun winter 'stuff'. Hopefully we can remain healthy!!

What's up?

So, what's up with us? I guess I haven't felt there is too much excitement to blog about! We have been thoroughly enjoying our membership at the aquatic center. The girls love the 'activity center' (child care), which gives Paul and I a nice time to be able to go and workout a couple nights a week. The pool has been a riot with them too. Regan is big enough, and now brave enough, to go on the water slide. She spends most of her time in the pool with no swimmies or flotation devices. She is learning to swim pretty well. She still grabs a kick board for the lazy river, which is the only area over her head.

Sage has conquered any fear of water that remained a couple of weeks ago! She loves hopping across the lily pads, but even more so, loves to jump in and swim back 'all by herself' (with a float suit on). Tonight, she really took to the lazy river too. Now that she knows she can trust the float suit, she has a lot of confidence and doesn't want any help. She was a riot to watch. This 'lazy' river is different than the others I have seen. You don't float on a tube, you just float, swim, walk, whatever in a circle area that has jets moving the water around. Every time she got near a jet and it would shoot her forward she would just squeal with delight. Paul had to finally drag her out of that area, kicking and screaming, because she was gagging from all the water she ingested. She has a hard time keeping her mouth closed and the water out...mostly because her grin is too big and she keeps trying to talk!!

I am still enjoying my vita-mix. Homemade pizza is a hit and Paul's new favorite? Guacamole! I have also made a couple of batches of soup. The first one, a creamy potato, needs some spice revision. The second one, broccoli cheese was great! Even Paul said I could make it anytime and for a man who loathes vegetables, that's pretty good!

Today, we come to the end of our 'Christmas Break' and return to 'normal life' tomorrow...what ever that means! lol!!

We have enjoyed the holidays and have spent lots of time together as a family. Our highlight is definitely joining our local aquatic center. Our local high school built a beautiful facility that opened in the fall and we purchased a membership to it as our 'big' Christmas gift to the girls and as a way to spend family time together. Once a week, we will go together as a family. Paul and I will sneak in a little exercise, while the girls go to the activity center. Then we will go to the family pool together for a little while. Once a month we will visit on Saturday or Sunday, just to go to the pool together.

Last weekend, we attempted to go to a local mall and look at a new bed for Paul and I. After a 40 minute drive in the fog, Sage decided to be sick in the car. So our trip to the mall turned into a trip to Walmart for new/clean clothes for her and a trip home in the fog. Yesterday, we decided to attempt the trip again. Regan's health was questionable, as she woke up extremely tired and had a low grade fever. We decided to go anyway. We made it to Build a Bear, had lunch, visited the bed store (and purchased a new bed), rode the carousel and then waited for Daddy while he went to Dick's Sporting goods. While we were waiting, I kept asking Regan repeatedly if she was going to be sick. She kept saying no. A quick stop at Mrs. Fields for a treat to eat on the ride home proved to be too much. As soon as she stood up from sitting in Sage's stroller, she said 'I am going to throw up!' ACK!!! Somehow, Paul managed to discretely handle the situation, containing the entire mess in one of our shopping bags. The funny part is that we were surrounded by people, but nobody even noticed a thing! Too consumed with picking their cookies I guess!!

Oh, the joys of parenting!! The good news is, she is feeling much better today. So tomorrow it's back to school (which she is very excited about)!
